2008 Homestead Exclusion Tax Reduction

 

Why is there a zero in the homestead tax reduction column of my tax bill?

Either you did not submit the homestead/farmstead application to the Chester County Assessment Office or they denied your application.  Questions concerning the completion of the homestead/farmstead application may be directed to the Chester County Assessment Office at 610-344-4570.

I didn’t receive an application.  Can I fill one out now?

The deadline to be approved for a homestead/farmstead reduction on this year’s school tax was March 1, 2008.  You can submit a homestead/farmstead application for next year but you will not receive notice of its status until the first of the year.

What qualifications must be met in order to be approved by the County for the homestead/farmstead tax reduction?

You must reside in the property you own.

Do I have to apply every year? 

The application expires after three years.  The County is responsible for maintaining the homestead list and the year your application is due to expire you will be mailed a new application.

How did you arrive at a reduction of $181.41?

Our school district received $2,099,813.81 in gaming money from the State for the purpose of reducing property taxes.  This amount of money was equally distributed to the approved homestead/farmstead properties in the District to arrive at the dollar amount of $181.41.  This calculates to an assessment reduction of 10,690 for each eligible property.
